What is best home theatre system or receiver for indoor and outdoor setup?

I’m looking to find out what to look for in a receiver or Home theatre system so I am able to watch tv inside, and play a dvd or ipod outside using the same receiver. (i.e. Dora inside and Radiohead outside on the deck) Any help would be appreciated!!

there’s a lot of multi-room receivers out there but i don’t think it would be able to play 2 sources at the same time, I am not sure though. i suggest you go visit bestbuy or magnolia.

  2. Check out Denon’s higher end stuff. I think the 3808 and above can play music and video to more than one zone, although the second zone is limited to composite video. I think the 4308 and higher support component video to the second zone. They can play from different sources to different zones. The 5808 can do 5.1 to two zones where as the 4308 and 3808 can do 5.1 to one zone and stereo to the other. AVRs under that (like the 688) will only do audio to more than one zone.

Onkyo and Yamaha and Pioneer all have equivalents. You’ll need to visit an audio specialty store to get this sort of equipment. Best Buy only carries the lesser Chinese made models.

  3. Many different manufacturers have what you want. It’s normally called Dual Zone. The Denon AVR688 has it and that’s a relatively inexpensive receiver (under $400). The other thing you’ll want are outdoor speakers.

  4. The feature you want is called "Zone 2" or "dual room". Many (if not most) 7.1 receivers will have it. You can have 5.1 dedicated to home theater surround sound and two extra speakers somewhere else that can be dedicated to music.
