I am working on an academic project. I want to find the average Retail price of Marlboro Cigarettes in 50 states in US, preferably with a break-up of the base price, the federal taxes, state taxes and local taxes. Can anyone help me find it?
$3.25-$9.00. Based on where you are in the US. Every US state has different taxes for cigarettes. I live in NC and there $3.85 (a year ago they were $2.75 in NC). But when I’m in New York City they were $8.25. Check out the links below for more detailed info on the cigarette tax by state, federal taxes, and cost average.

I was a retail Loss prevention manager for almost 3 years. I then moved and stupidly got a job as a receptionist. I want to go back to retail but I am not sure how to explain the dramatic job difference in responsibilities and show that I am still qualified to be a manager.
You moved and got the first available job.
A very acceptable answer.
And lucky for you in retail it’s already Christmas so everyone is hiring.
Good Luck

On Replica sites that sell replica shoes, bags, etc they usually have a wholesale price and a retail price, and wholesale is a little bit cheaper than retail.
??
Retail is what it sells for in the store.
Wholesale is when you wanna buy something in bulk to sell (like if you have a company), so they usually sell you a large amount of items for a cheaper price.

I’m having a hard time finding some data on this. I want to know how many Retail stores in the US are part of national chains (radioshacks, Walmarts, Best Buys, etc.) as compared to small independently owned stores or small regional chains.
You WON’T find data on that, because NO ONE tracks that. The term "national chain" is COMPLETELY subjective. That can mean that they have a store in more than one state OR it can mean that they much have stores in all 50 states. Also, small independent stores are not required to report ANYTHING to ANYONE about their scope of their operations. Only the IRS cares about them reporting anything and taxable income is NOT going to help you.

I’m trying to get an idea of where to locate a potential retail Business that I want to start. Does anyone know of any associations or websites that provide retail zoned real estate prices for various cities?
I’m looking for recent average selling prices per square foot.
craigslist.org has different city sites that have listings for commercial property.

What is the difference between retail stores and trade stores?
I know it’s a dumb question, but I really don’t know.
I was thinking of applying for Bunnings online, and it said if I wanted to work in a retail store or a trade store.
Retail sells to the general public, trade sells to other tradespeople only e.g. normally in bulk.

At least 6 months of cash handling or Retail service experience is required.
Does it mean working in a store?
Yes, that’s what it means.

I am concerned about this coming holiday season in regards to stores staying in business. I have many friends that work in retail, and a couple of them have told me that they are afraid of losing their jobs because their store that they work at might close if Business does not pick up during the holiday season. What do you think will happen to the retail industry?
See what happens when we don’t believe in Santa…

I want a job in retail, but all employers want experienced only. Any suggestions?
Do you have a place like value village or salvation army.,. Like a thrift store where people donate stuff and then sell it? And take volunteers? They’re usually run by churches.
Volunteer at one of those for a couple weeks, and voila, you have Retail experience.
Or apply to places like walmart that will hire almost anyone. Just because they PREFER experience doesn’t mean it’s a requirement. And usually even if you don’t have all the requirements you can still get in. My job now, I don’t think I even met half the requirements but as long as your enthusiastic it’s worth a try and they will sometimes take you.

How do retail stores protect the merchandise sitting on the outside of the store?
The only merch I ever see sitting out of Retail stores is too heavy to hoist, chained to the ground, or monitored with cameras. Other than that, I guess they rely on the honor system, or having enough customers to tattle on each other.

If your a wholesaler you cant sell at retail and a Retailer cant sell at wholesale. Yet companies have ways of doing this in a legal way. For example: Microsoft Xbox distributes there Xbox product to stores at at wholesale prices but you can also buy the product directly from the Microsoft retail website. How do they get around these wholesale laws? If i wanted to do something similar do i have to create a new company and have 2 companies 1 for retail and 1 for distributing wholesale? Thanks
What laws are you talking about? Retailers can sell wholesale to anyone with a resale permit. Retail prices are determined by the cost of goods and can be changed at any time by the seller. As a store owner for over 19 years there are no laws restricting sales regarding retail/wholesale except that sales taxes are collected on retail sales and none on wholesale sales. I was free to set my own prices based on the free market and the cost of my product.

I would assume most people with a lot of retail experience must have started somewhere. I find that a lot of Retailers won’t even give you a thought if you apply without retail experience.
Depending on how old you are &the availability you have you may have to start somewhere small &low paying. Stores like Sears &Target are constantly hiring and usually only look for a friendly face with the right availability. Being 18 or older also helps since they will be able to schedule you at any time that they please ¬ break any laws. Don’t give up. Keep trying most stores provide training anyway. Good luck.

I’m 23, don’t have any degree, but good high school grades. I’m wondering how I could go about getting a job with a retail company as a trainee Retail manager. I have previous retail experience, but not in a management role.
Which would be the best company to apply to, and how would I apply?
I’ve seen these schemes advertised in papers like Metro, but I would imagine that most companies would advertise them on their websites also.
I know that Lidl and Morrison’s both have really good trainee schemes, although typically they are looking to hire graduates. I would start with their websites, and if there is no information on there, then call their head offices and ask to speak to someone in HR or recruitment.
Then, in terms of other companies to try, think about what companies are likely to have such schemes: it will primarily be large chains, so all the national supermarkets, and also department stores and high-street fashion stores. Again, just browse their websites for information.
