Wondering if we buy a surround sound system does it work the same as a Home Theatre system?
For best sound you want to get an audio video receiver a separate speaker system and Blu ray player…you can get an entry level receiver for as little as $140 and speakers for as little as $150 you will get a much better sound this way and your options for the future will be much more flexible….take a look at receivers bu Sherwood or Onkyo and speakers by Jamo; Energy or Dayton….for entry level stuff that is not too expensive but still has good quality…

Just wondering if possible how to get my PS3 optical cable and Sky HD optical cable to both be in use without having to physicaly remove and replace as my Home Theatre kit has only 1 input, i know its physicaly impossible to use 2 optical cables for 1 input but what alternatives do i have any suggestions ?
You can use this inexpensive piece as a splitter/combiner. It will be a lot easier than moving plugs around and it’s 6 bucks!

I have a LG HT963TA 5.1 Home Theatre System and it used to be awesome, but now every DVD i put into it skips. At first I thought it was the DVDs but i put them in my computer and playstation and they worked excellent in both. So is it my theatre system?
If so how can i fix this problem?
Also does anyone have reviews for this home theatre system?
I already used a cleaner disc on it.
it might be dirty try gettin one of those cleaning disks

I’m looking for a place that will give decent instructions on the wiring and technical parts of installing home theatre systems. I have already tried a few places, but it all seems to be primarily geared at sales knowledge and not actual training and information on the hook ups and settings.
I’d prefer someplace in the DFW area, but any where in the US is satisfactory.
First hand knowledge is a plus.
Do an internet search for CEDA and "ISF". These are two groups who certify designers, installers, calibration.
Also check out "Crestron" – a maker of high-end remote control systems.
I have to warn you – wiring the stuff is easy. The bulk of installation is installing in-wall wiring, custom cabinets, ‘hidden’ speaker and screen installations.
Then you have the gravy job of dedicated media rooms but you have to work in a monied area for this.
A good book is "Sound Studio Construction on a Budget" by F. Alton Everest. It explains a lot of acoustic concepts (the "black magic" of home theater).

Anyone know where to look to find information on making a home theatre with a good sound system? I’m looking at a budget of 5-7K including a 50 inch LCD. In ceiling speakers for the front two. Any direction appreciated. Thx.
Jefferson you already went $3,000 over budget & you forgot the 50 inch LCD.
Plus the two front speakers are suppose to be in ceiling speakers.
And those $600 Denon DRA-697CI receivers are putting out way too much distortion.
100 watts x 2 into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.08% THD
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4XYgTCJKWWW/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=Denon+DRA%2D697ci&i=033DRA697C
Now compare that to the $500 Yamaha RX-797 receiver.
100 watts x 2 into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.019% THD
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4XYgTCJKWWW/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=10420&I=022RX797
One fourth the distortion for 30% less money

"It is believed that the more expensive the ‘gear’ the better overall performance of the Theatre. To many people, Retail dealers included, rely too much on the higher performance (higher cost) of the equipment to promote high end results, when lower cost (less performance) systems properly setup and calibrated to the environment can perform just as well. Whether your preference is for a Large Screen Rear Projection TV (RPTV), the latest in Flat Panel or Front Projection systems or even just a plain old tube TV a solution is there. A Home Theatre can be no more than adding a good, cost-effective surround sound system to the Family Room TV or to the ultimate high-end theme theatre that spares no expense – or somewhere in between"

i just moved into a new house and the bonus room had speakers in the corners and around the room, and, they all come together where the tv is. so, i have decided to get a Home Theatre. i need to know where to start and what to buy, and i cant spend that much money either. thanks in advance.
Seek the help of a professional.
Why bother burning up good equipment on stupid advice!
Many specifics are needed , How many speakers, what type. impedence values of speakers and amps, details of the room and the equipment are required to give advice

I have a Samsung Home theatre and want the surround sound for my blueray player. I could just go direct to the TV, but not with surround sound. Direction unclear. Any help out there?
Everything (cable box, blu ray, etc) is connected to the home theatre system inputs and the output of the home theater system goes to the TV. Turn the TV speakers off and use the Home theater system for the sound.

I am thinking of buying a Home Theatre surround sound system, but mainly want it for playing compact discs (mainly classical), with occassional DVD use. Can anyone recommend anything suitable?
Actually, I do the opposite. I use a high quality
2 channel stereo system to play CDs and DVDs.
A lot less complicated to set up and IMO, a lot
more genuine sound reproduction.
I recommend getting a good quality integrated
amplifier (or receiver if you listen to the radio),
and a pair of good floorstanding loudspeakers.
And a good CD or DVD player if you don’t yet
have one to complete your system.
RULE OF THUMB: For the same price, two
(good) speakers are better than five (average)
speakers with a (mediocre) powered sub.
Here are a couple of websites to point you in
the right direction to get you started on your quest…

its a panosonic Home Theatre system the sub that is included doesent put out enough base for my taste.
Paradigm has good room-shaking subs, depending how much you want to spend, the PW-2200 is a good value, but if you want to make your neighbors think they are experiencing an earthquake the Signature Servo would be your best bet.
Sunfire also makes very powerful subs, the True Subwoofer EQ Signature has an amazing 2700 watts amp.

The type of computer subwoofer is CREATIVE and the model for the phillips Home Theatre system is HTS3544. Is it possible because my original subwoofer doesnt work?
Computer speaker systems use the subwoofer as a receiver from the computer’s audio out. Not only is the subwoofer worthless on it’s own, so are the rest of the computer speakers.

I would like to get some speakers for my TV and Blu ray player but I am not to sure what to get, so does anyone know the difference between Home Theatre and home cinema speakers
Cinema and movie theater are synonyms, so there isn’t a difference.
If you want 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound you will need not just speakers, but an amplifier (aka receiver) too. You can buy each separately or you can buy them bundled in what’s called a "home theater in a box", or HTIB.
As with any other electronics equipment, there is a wide spectrum of features available, with prices to match. Since you already have a player, you want an HTIB based on a receiver, not a DVD player (as most of them are).
In my opinion the best value for such a system is made by Onkyo. For full HDMI use, check out the Onkyo HT-S6100 HTIB. It’s a 7.1 system. You can get it online for around $600.
Or, if you want to do it yourself, get the Onkyo TX-SR606 (~$450) receiver and a set of 5.1 speakers. There are many out there, but in my opinion Polk makes a solid home theater set called the RM6750 that sell for under $250.
There are less expensive options, but none that I know of that feature HDMI switching.
