I’m leaning towards burnt orange and peach or light pink accents throughout the apartment. I have a black coffee table and side tables and I’m not sure if I should switch those out for brown or another color. Would the black furniture be a good fit for the look I’m going for? Or would brown pieces be redundant since I already have a brown couch?

Your furniture can be brown or black also. Just make sure you have color ( I suggest light blue) on your walls and accent to lighten it up. I love chocolate brown. I find it goes well with burnt orange, light blue or even a lime green for accent. Something bright:)

I would like to start my own business one day and im currently in the research and business plan process. The business i would like to start is a Lounge bar. I would like to know if i could maybe find new Furniture store or other manufactures that would sell me furniture at a low price, to help promote themselves.

I am moving soon, just about all of my current furniture is going to end up at Goodwill (pretty much all I will keep is this computer desk & printer stand). Some of the furniture is over 20 yrs old – I am 27 so I’ve had a lot of it all my life & I am sick of the stuff I have even though it is not falling apart.
Anyways, I have not lived in northern Virginia long enough to really know where good Furniture stores can be found or what the names even are.
I’ll be living in Fairfax soon after I get out of Falls Church. I am going to be getting a new bedroom, living room & dining room set. Price is not too much of an issue but I want to keep it within reason.

I am planning on buying furniture but I will be doing it with lay away I wanted to know when you buy an item using lay away do they let you take the furniture Home. Or do you have to first pay everything and then they let you take the furniture home. I am confused please help…

Normally when you use layaway you have to pay for every thing before you take it home. If not you normally are financing the purchase.

Apricot is an orange color and its complimentary color would be blue. Go with a medium blue with chocolate accent, or just plain blue.

Blue, chocolate, darker apricot, a reddish brown would look nice also as long as it’s more brown than red. Medium brown. Try to avoid really light colors unless it’s blue. Keep it medium to dark otherwise.

I would highly advise a light-medium blue.

Yes.I would sand ……………we used to give any new wood products a water bath with a damp cloth….let it dry and then lightly sand. The water bath causes the grain to raise just a bit and helps remove dirt and finger oil from the surface and if it hasn’t removed it …..the water helps raise enough grain up and a light sanding will help. It helps to make a better looking finish if you are staining………if your painting I still would lightly sand. It’s just like a car…..the way to find the flaws is to lightly wash it……….on the way by……your likely to spot the little chips and problems and be able to overcome them……..good luck and all the best on your project. bye

I am moving and will have roommates. I am bringing my two year old cat. They do not want him to go on the furniture. He is used to going onto the furniture at my apartment that I am moving out of. Is there a spray or something I could use on the furniture that will not harm the furniture (from suede type couches to wooden things)? I trained all three of my cats not jump on counters or Furniture by using double sided tape for a couple of weeks, and it works and does not hurt them in any way, they don’t like the stickeyness of the tape and then jump down, I have also used a spray bottle with water and this works too. I also put the double-sided tape on my couch corners just to keep it protected but it also deters them from using their claws to tear it up.

I am moving into a small apartment with dark chocolate brown carpet. It meshes with the kitchen with tile floor that has reds, browns, and neutral colors. The walls are white and i am not allowed to paint them. Should i do wood furniture?Black? I don’t know what color couches to get as well. Please help and if you have any pictures that would help out. Purchase upholstered pieces (couch and chairs) with textured neutral colors so these peices can move with you and work where ever you live for the next five to seven years or more. Add your color with accessories in the way of pillows, draperies, art work, lamps, nick nacks and the like. A small apartment will look more roomy if your main pieces are lighter neutral colors.

A way to add color and pattern to a room for very little money is to stretch a great piece of fabric over a canvas and staple it to the frame. It’s simple, inexpensive and it can have a huge impact in a space if it is a rather large canvas. It also gives you an opportunity to use that fabric again in the room or use coordinating fabric to bring the room together and to use those coordinating fabrics in adjoining rooms. By getting a thrift store ottoman, you can make a simple slipcover to add a pop of color/pattern in your room. Ottomans in a small space are a gem. You can use them for extra seating, some have storage underneath and when a tray is placed on the ottoman, you have an instant coffee or side table.

Black furniture against white walls with brown carpet will look a little odd. Too stark against the walls and black furniture will fade into the chocolate brown. Perhaps a medium wood tone in your Furniture selections would look warmer.

Color suggestions in fabric and accessories? Perhaps turquoise would really make your apartment pop. Turquoise goes great with browns and tans and creams and looks dynomite with red.

For your furniture, look for scaled down sizes and be careful about the oversized arms of couches and chairs which eat up valuable space and are not proportionate to small apartments.

My boyfriend and I are finally moving into our first place on our own. It’s a great little duplex, and the only thing I don’t like about it is the ugly brown carpet that all of the cheap apartments and duplexes have. The dark brown. The walls and everything are painted white.

Go for an aqua blue color with white and tan accents. Use light colored wood like teak; no darker than oak.

When I absent-mindedly wiped off some water from my night stand with a baby wipe the other night, I noticed that the baby wipe came up quite soiled. I am not sure if the finish is old Fashioned varnish or a modern polyurethane or something similar.

The night stand is not a valuable piece, but I wondered suddenly about other varnished wooden furniture …. baby wipes clearly are for babies… but what do you use for furniture …. are there any ‘furniture wipes’?

I have researched the various furniture stores in the Houston, Texas area and Rooms To Go and Ashley Furniture had furniture I liked for prices I could afford. However, even though BBB gives the stores fairly good ratings, consumer reviews are not good. The BBB is not reporting any complaints against Star Furniture but the store prices are a little beyond my budget as is the case with Gallery. Any suggestions would be a great help?

We found The Room Store to be pretty good. We bought a table elsewhere and then found it for WAY less at The Room Store, so we bought our leather couches there.
