you could:

get a job designing fashion, maybe for small retailers to begin with, gradually working your way up designing stuff for big brands, and eventually maybe even have your own clothes line!

or you could work in a fashion magazine, that has alot of fashion opportunities.

try and get your grade in art to an A, cos fashion is all about being creative and artistic using clothing to express yourself.

How does someone fashion challenged like myself find a cute outfit for my 30th birthday?

We are going to a comedy club and then out to a few bars. I have no idea how to put together a cute/sexy and flattering outfit to wear. How do I put together an outfit that won’t make me look so out of touch with fashion?
It may not be rocket science but to some it doesn’t come so easy. Just b/c the mall offers it, it doesn’t make it attractive. I have seen plenty of ugly products at the mall.

I think the best cute/cheap/fashionable/and sexy clothes you can find would be at the stores
papaya or forever 21

:)

BOTH STORES would love to help you find what would look best on you for your occasion
the girls that work at the stores are always their to help…ALL you have to do is ask them to help you find an outfit and explain to them exactly what your looking for…and if you have no idea what you want they can also help you find something!

How do you start becoming a fashion designer?

I’m a 14 year old girl and I love drawing, painting, and anything creative. My dream is to become a fashion designer, but i don’t know how to sew or anything about fashion design. Is there any way that i could learn on my own and start designing now?

Find out what country they are from. Also write what type of fashion each company makes. These are called "fashion categories". Some examples of categories are: footwear, accessiores, juniorwear, career wear. Decide what category interests you the most. Next start a scrapbook or portfolio with pictures of that type of fashion. If you want to add sketches, that will add to the notebook. Also make a list of companies or brands in that category, as well as your most favorite and inspirational designers. My favorite design Fashion is Baby Phat.

Learn to draw drapery. If you can find a class that draws people or "life drawing", take that too. If you can’t draw real people, start drawing from photos of fashion models. Also learn about color, and mixing color. Know what colors look good together and how color groups are assembled. Focus on drawing actual fashions, and perfecting drawing bodies.
Get a mannequin that you can pin fabric on or drape to make designs to see how they would fit a body. Draping is another word for covering, dressing, or hanging cloth in loose folds. You can learn about this in a sewing class, or through a fashion school or program.

Study the patterns and become familiar with sewing pattern shapes. Sew for real people (like family and friends) so that you get familiar with body shapes and fit. Also learn about fabric. Know what fabrics are made from (silk? wool? cotton?) and how they are woven (velvet, twill, satin).

You will learn a great deal about dealing with a customer and fitting the human body in all its variations (tall, short, petite or large). You can also charge money for your work.

Visit web sites such as pantone.com to see what colors are going to be in fashion. Also try to predict what fashion will be popular in the future. Is it being sold in stores or online? What are the major department stores? What stores sell the category of fashion you are interested in? Also learn about "targeting your customer base". This means knowing the type of person who will buy your fashions.

If you live close to a community college or university, see if that school has a program in fashion. Plan to spend at least 2 years in any fashion design program. Don’t feel that you have to spend a lot of money to get this training. Many states have public colleges or trade schools with excellent fashion training.

Ask your teacher or instructor about this, an internship in Paris would be a fantastic opportunity.

When you graduate, you should have a portfolio of your best work. Usually these illustrations are of the one category that you are interested in finding a job in. A good portfolio will sometimes have sample garments too. A good size for a portfolio is 14" x 17".

Think of your first job as ‘graduate school’. You won’t be a designer yet, but you might work for one. It will be hard work, long hours, and lots of exciting times. As you work, you will move up the career ladder, working at many positions before you become a designer. A professional designer has huge responsibilities, and only a seasoned one qualifies to take on those tasks.

What sort of fashion styles are revolving around the world?

What is your favourite accessory at the moment? What trends do you follow? I am from south africa and am just wondering how our fashion differs from that of the rest of the world?
Personally, what items of clothing are you embracing? Skinnies? Hats? Scarves? DIY Haircuts? Collared shirts?

This is too vague to answer really, generally London is the world’s leader for fashion with regards to street clothes, Paris for higher end Fashion. What you see in London today will be on the backs of most kids in the world within a year.

I know that a fashion designer is kind of similar to a fashion merchandiser. What are the differences?

Two occupations Fashion design and fashion merchandising are similar, but not exactly alike. Do you know the difference between the two.

My major is not fashion, it’s either engineering or math.

two totally separate careers. a designer designs the clothing from sketch to finish. a merchandiser works for a store a dresses store mannequins or windows

What does the color of purple fashion depict?

For example, the color of pink fashion depicts girliness and femininity. So what would the color of purple fashion depict? I need to write a paragraph about this for Homework, so please tell me what you know or what you think. Does it depict elegance, sophistication, maturity, womanhood, etc?

Sounds like you already understand purple. Purple is considered mature, yet you seldom see it on old ladies! Purple has always meant luxury and sophistication. A woman in purple isn’t afraid to stand out or to announce herself to the world. Purple is bold, but not brash. It speaks clear and loud, but it isn’t whiny or strident. Purple was once worn only by royalty, and it still carries its royal heritage in how we perceive the colour and the people who wear it. Tints of purple are considered old fashioned, and dark shades of purple are considered dark and menacing, more so than black. Purple is bold, a dress in pink is girly and frou-frou, the same dress in purple is suddenly sophisticated and chic. Purple is one of my favourite colours.

What are the supplies for fashion designing?

I need to get art supplies since i’m interested in fashion designing. I have a sketchbook and trace pad but i need high quality coloring pencils/coloring utensils that aren’t too expensive, but i need to know where to get these things. Please help. If anyone has any tips on fashion designing please let me know! Thanks everyone!

Real fashion designers use almost anything and everything for their sketches and renderings. Some use nothing more than a basic sharpie marker and pantone color markers. Some make wonderful large sized full colour watercolor and india ink renderings. Other use colored pencils and basic micron pens. Prismacolor pencils are the standard for commercial art, and the color range and blendability means they are perfect for fashion design. Pantone markers are also popular because pantone’s color matching number range is also used by thread, elastics, tapes, zipper, and other sewing notion manufacturers. A designer can say send me fifty zippers in pantone 2345 and the colour will match perfectly. (which I frequently do) I use Sakura Micron pens for most finished sketches. There are many that I do in black and white only so the customer can select her own colour or print fabric. I can scan the print and the drawing into the computer and then use photoshop so she can see her dress in her fabric. It helps her to see herself in the dress if I leave fabric color to her imagination. When I am designing embroideries for my designs I use a fine black pen and then fill in using prismacolor pencils. My one Business friend doesn’t ever make sketches, all his designs are done by draping on a dress form and he takes extensive photos along the way. He’s never once ever sketched a design, his process involves fabric, scissors, and sewing machine. Works for him, I suppose.

What fashion design game is best for a young child on the Nintendo DS Lite?

My daughter is five and her big brother has DS that she really loves. We are thinking about getting her one for Christmas. She wants a fashion design game and mentioned Imagine Fashion Designer. I want to know if that is appropriate and easy enough for her to do on her own. I would also like some other options for a fashion design game that would be good for her.

My fashion studio is more simple and easy AND fun than imagine Fashion designer, it really was HARD and all these menus for nothing.

It was a horrible game and "my fashion studio" really redeemed the company in question.

So go with "my fashion studio" not imagine Fashion designer!

I make fashion jewelry. How can i include my signature on my work?

I make Fashion jewelry, and I want to know, after i make the different pieces, how can i advertise my signature or logo onto the necklace? Or is that a good idea?

on a piece (like a ring) make a signature like a fancy symbol… ETC

I want to be a fashion designer- which books should I start reading/studying to really understand fashion?

For a long time now I’ve wanted to be a fashion designer, or stylist. I already read fashion magazines, but they don’t provide much in the way of history, etc. Which books would you suggest to a teenager who wanted to understand the history and ways of fashion and fashion design?

I wanted to become a fashion designer, but after I did some research, I realized about 1% out of 99 make it ANYWHERE. They usually try and start there own clothing line which fails, or start there own botique that fails. Most just end up at a cash register in Victoria’s Secret for 20 years untill they realize they arent going anywhere and change there career. I would advise you NOT to go into this industry unless you are REMARKABLY talented. There ARE lot of talenented people, but you have to be a Fashion genius to get anywhere. If you still like fashion, makeup, etc. find a niche market in something and creat your own new trend or product. Or just become a makeup artist.

I’m sorry to slap you so hard in the face, but I know you will regret it if you become a fashion designer.

Good Luck!

How to prepare for my first fashion show?

I am 12 going on 13 and about to be in my first fashion show, for African-style fashions. I wear glasses, though, and I have a little extra belly fat, and bad posture. How can I get ready for my first time in the modeling world? Also, how can I get farther than this first (professional) Fashion show, and on to other jobs?

you could look at magazines to draw inspiration and you could do a little exercise like sit ups and running and you have to have confidence without that its like you’ll be there for nothing

What fashion show hair and makeup should I do?

I am in a fashion show this Friday and we are doing our own make up. There are six different scenes with different themes. They are: 80’s house party.
High Fashion
Business
Race Car/Nascar
Evening Wear
Rock and Roll
It’s a Fashion show so things can be big and outrageous too!

well from your details I’m not completely sure if you’re going to be in it as in walking as a model and rocking all these different looks, because if so then you won’t have time for make up changes.

anyway,

HF- thick liquid eyeliner and smokey eye
B- regular, natural looking makeup with heavy mascara and maybe they should wear some business-person like glasses?
RC/N- white eyeshadow and accent the eyes
EW-nothing special but natural looking makeup and maybe some heavy blush and brown eyeshadows
R&R- go all out with different radical eyeshadows and make it heavy and apparent. use eyeshadow to cover the ENTIRE eye lid and thick liquid eyeliner on top lid and extend beyond the eye.

What do fashion designers or custume designers need to do their work?

Because i have to research what Fashion or costume designers will buy from a shop to make a dress or whatever. what materials would they need, like the different types of cloth, needles, threads. Please tell what more do they need?

In shop work we have two types of supplies, on hand non job specific and supplies purchased specifically for a particular job.

On hand non job specific supplies include pins, needles, threads, zippers in many colours and lengths, hooks and eyes, basic buttons, interfacings in all weights, china silk for linings, and cotton muslin for making test garments to fine tune design and fit. These are often purchased from warehouses or wholesalers in large lots. I buy rolls of interfacings and linings, never two yards here or three yards there…I always buy a whole roll. For thread I buy long staple polyester on 5000 meter cones, it cheaper to buy in large quantities. Pins come in one pound boxes, stainless steel longs, also known as "dorcas dressmaker pins". Dorcas refers to the length, I have no idea where the term came from. I also have a good supply of fashion fabrics on hand, from rolls of silks to odd lots of whatever catches my eye to leftovers from previous jobs.

Then I also have job specific purchases. For example right now I’m making a bunch of special shirts for a local eatery. For these pieces I needed to buy a few rolls of black cotton spandex, several rolls of lace, and stretch bindings. Another job might include special notions such as hook and eye tape, steel boning, special fabrics, dyes, it depends. I have a few fabric swatch books from suppliers of evening fabrics, dupionis and shantungs, crepe satins, that sort of thing. I can order direct for wholesale prices rather than go to the fabric store and buy retail. For costly fabrics I will make the dress up in cotton muslin and perfect the fit and design and then take the cotton with me to the outlet so I buy no more than I need. For something like re-embroidered brocades that start at 150$ a meter, you don’t buy more than you need and you don’t waste an inch.

Most dress shops and costume shops operate that way, combining on hand basics with job specific purchases. We almost always we buy in large quantities as it’s cheaper that way. We almost always hang on to everything, like scraps, leftover buttons, we never know when it’s going to come in useful again. Costume shops will often hold onto costumes and recycle them into new costumes; the Shakespeare Festival shop in Stratford often uses and reuses costumes from previous seasons to make current season’s costumes. Here’s a little page describing the festival’s costume warehouse. http://www.frugalfun.com/costumewhouse.html also the next site is one used by costume shops, there might be something interesting there for you: http://www.costumes.org/
